Pengajian turath merupakan sistem pengajian yang menekankan aspek spiritual dalam proses pengajaran. Pengajian ini menggunakan kitab-kitab turath atau juga dikenali dengan kitab kuning sebagai silibus pengajian. Pengajian kitab turath tidak hanya dipelajari di pondok atau masjid, malah ia telah mula diterima menjadi sistem pengajian formal di Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Islam khususnya di Malaysia. Perkembangan ini membuktikan bahawa kitab-kitab turath yang dihasilkan oleh ulama silam diterima dan diperakui kehebatannya walaupun telah ditulis dalam tempoh beribu tahun. Kajian ini dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengetahui pendekatan pengajaran turath di institusi pengajian tinggi Islam Malaysia. Kajian ini merupakan kajian jenis kualitatif dengan reka bentuk kajian etnografi, instrumen kajian ialah pemerhatian dan dianalisis dengan pendekatan induktif. Hasil kajian mendapati terdapat empat pendekatan pengajaran turath yang tidak digunakan oleh pensyarah daripada 23 pendekatan yang dinilai. Pensyarah yang mengajar subjek-subjek turath di tiga institusi pengajian tinggi Islam Malaysia didapati menggunakan pendekatan pengajaran turath seperti mengaitkan isu semasa semasa pengajaran, membahaskan tajuk kuliah dengan terperinci dan lain-lain pendekatan. Pendekatan yang tidak digunakan dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran ialah tidak menggabungkan kaedah amali dalam silibus pengajian, tidak menggunakan kekerasan dalam pengajaran dan terdapat satu institusi yang tidak menggunakan pendekatan musyawarah dan menghuraikan tajuk kuliah dengan membawa pandangan dan perbezaan pendapat.
Turath study is a study system that emphasizes the spiritual aspect in the teaching process. This study uses the books of turath or also known as the yellow book as a study syllabus. The study of the book of turath is not only studied in lodges or mosques, but it has begun to be accepted as a formal study system in Islamic Higher Education Institutions, especially in Malaysia. This development proves that the scriptures produced by scholars in the past are accepted and certified for their greatness even though they were written over a period of thousands of years. The purpose of this study was to find out the teaching approach of turat in Islamic institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. This study is a qualitative study with an ethnographic research design, the research instrument is observation and analyzed with an inductive approach. The results of the study found that there were four turat teaching approaches that were not used by lecturers out of 23 approaches that were evaluated. Lecturers who teach turath subjects at three Malaysian Islamic institutions of higher learning are found to use turath teaching approaches such as relating current issues during teaching, debating lecture topics in detail and other approaches. The approach that is not used in teaching and learning is not incorporating practical methods in the study syllabus, not using violence in teaching and there is one institution that does not use a deliberative approach and elaborates the lecture title by bringing views and differences of opinion.
