Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the relationship of Vocabulary Learning Strategy (VLS) with vocabulary knowledge. The sample consisted of 260 students of Sijil Tinggi Agama Menengah (STAM) in different SABK in Selangor. The study used correlation method with descriptive approach. Two instruments were used; 1) questionnaire  on  Arabic  Vocabulary  Learning  Strategies  and  2)  test  on  Arabic  vocabulary  knowledge.  The questionnaire was adapted based on questionnaire vocabulary learning strategies al-Shuwairekh (2001). The questionnaire consisted of 77 questions of seven categories of vocabulary learning, namely non-dictionary strategies for discovering the meanings of new words, dictionary use, note taking, memorization, practice, metacognitive strategies and expanding lexical knowledge. As for Arabic vocabulary knowledge, 40 samples taken from the test word of Arabic Vocabulary Test (TAV) (Harun, 2014) using Vocabulary Knowledge Scale (VKS) (Paribakht & Wesche, 1993). Both of these instruments have surpassed the validity and reliability. The survey was analysed using two types of statistics – descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings showed a significant correlation between the application of VLS and knowledge of Arabic vocabulary.
